The term "fatigue" has many implications for a PPS patient. Many patients report a general
fatigue -- a flu-like, generalized exhaustion that may be associated with an increased need
for rest, and difficulty with concentration and memory. Many others report a muscular fatigue
-- a decline in muscle strength upon exertion, which might best be designated as muscle
"fatigability" or lack of endurance. Muscle strength usually returns after a short period
of rest. The muscle fatigability observed in PPS patients is reminiscent of that seen in
another neuromuscular disorder, myasthenia gravis. General fatigue and muscular fatigue
frequently occur concurrently in PPS patients.
