Current strategies for management of PPS can include physical therapy with judicious exercise; occupational therapy with energy conservation techniques and lifestyle modifications; the use of assistive devices; weight loss; and prescription of medications for pain management. Because of the great variety of symptoms reported by PPS patients, an interdisciplinary approach to management is usually most effective. The treatment team might include a primary care physician, physiatrist, neurologist, pulmonary specialist, psychiatrist, orthopedist, and rheumatologist, as well as other healthcare professionals such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, psychologists, social workers, dietitians, and orthotists. |
